mix and schtuff

Making a tape for a friend who still has that technology. Nice to be able to incorporate my vinyl into the mix. I have this much done:

Hedwig
Clark Coolidge
Duke Ellington
Dizzy Gillespie
John Cale
Martin Denny
Lou Barlow
Devo
Magic Hour
Minutemen
Elvis Costello
Public Enemy
(the last song ran out and will be rerecorded)

Side 2

[too easy]
Rahsaan Roland Kirk

If you can name one song/poem that was selected for this mix from these artists I will send you a broadside or a copy of the tape if you prefer.

If you can name two or more songs/poems I will send you a copy of Coltsfoot Insularity.

If you get more than 3 I'll send you something beyond explanation.

This means I've found a way to blog via email.

one of my favorite, of all time, perfomers is elvis costello. ol' declan is something of a genius, so is his long-time keyboardist steve nieve. so i'll answer with a favorite song of mine: 'almost blue.' a brilliant, smoky song of lost love with nieve's incredible tickling of the ivories.

and my second selection is by devo: 'the girl u want' for no other reason but it is also a favorite of mine.

AT,

Good guess on CC, thinking I might have went with the _All Poets Welcome_, but it's a different one.

& the Minutemen guess you make is better than the one I picked.

Richard,

A friend told me a story that she asked Elvis if why he didn't play "Almost Blue" after one of his shows and he said after Chet Baker did it, he couldn't do it anymore. Whether the story is true or not is debatable...both versions are great.

Good guess on the Devo, but no.
