Difficult because they're both hands-down brilliant. LA was my favorite for years; when I got a little tired of that (except for "World's a Mess" which never gets tired) WG became my favorite. The raw production ("We're Desperate") and the steps away from Chuck Berry ("Adult Books") make for a more diverse and interesting album, though it loses out to LA in terms of intensity.
both brilliant yes, but for me _los angeles_ is X's great album with its soaring harmonies, bone-crushing beats, the songs, the lyrics, the energy of a great band brand-new still in the process of discovery, from their instruments, to john doe's and exene's voices, the subject matter, it is a one very great album. and one i listen to to enliven me to the art of poetry: sound, structure and yes meaning. that harmonies are created in dissonance and anger, and love. _los angeles_ is a paean to the city, the punk scene as it existed then, and to art as it has always existed. i think it was the documentary _the unheard music_ where john tells us how he met exene for the first time. at a poetry workshop.

That's why I like the CD, I never have to choose.
